What you can see on someone else’s Instagram comes down to a single switch — public or private profile. Here’s the difference and what it means for anonymous viewing.
Public profile
The content is visible to everyone, even without an account: posts, stories, highlights, follower list. Public profiles are exactly the ones you can view anonymously — because their content is open anyway.
Private profile
Posts are visible only to approved followers. Outsiders see just the avatar, name, bio and post/follower counts — but not the actual photos, videos or stories.
Can you view a private one anonymously
No. No honest service bypasses privacy — that would be hacking the account. If a site promises to show a “private profile”, it’s almost always a scam or a way to harvest your data. Storix works only with public profiles.
How to tell if a profile is public
Try opening the profile’s posts without logging in. Visible — public. Not visible (a lock and “This account is private”) — private. In Storix a profile is flagged immediately if it is private.
What to do if a profile is private
The only legal way to see the content is to send a follow request and wait for the owner’s approval. There are no “anonymous” workarounds for private accounts.
Tip for owners
If you don’t want your content viewed anonymously or downloaded, make your profile private in the settings. Then only your followers will have access.
